CARRIER OPTIONS AFTER LLB?
If
you are thinking for a carrier in legal stream after 12th you should
definitely opt for graduation course in Law, its more attractive to say – “Become
a Lawyer”. The Profession of Law has become very versatile it has bloomed in
every corner and not just limited to court rooms.
Law Graduates are playing an essential role in building and growing any of business form of organization be it a Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, Company, Association of Persons, Trust, LLP, etc.
How
can you get admissions in Law School / College?
There
are Certain Popular Law entrance exams
- 1. AILET
- 2. CLAT
- 3. TS LAWCET
- 4. MH CET LAW
- 5. DU LLB Entrance Exam
By
clearing these examinations with a mark-able cut off, you get a chance to get
admissions in most desired universities like National Law Universities, else
you have an option to go for some good colleges through private route, but
obviously the fee for the course is much higher if you choose for a private
college. Thus, it is recommended to prepare for entrance examination, at least
for once give it a try.

carrier options after LLB:
- 1. Litigation Lawyer:
Most common option to opt is to practice as an advocate in the courts
after completing your graduation in law. To practice before the court after
completion of your graduation you need to appear for All India Bar Examination
(AIBE) and get yourself registered with your State Bar Council.
Mostly fresher graduates opt for an internship before appearing in court with some law firm or a senior lawyer, mostly the duration of internship is 1-3 months.
Practicing before Court as a
Litigation Lawyer, you can expect median earnings of 5-10Lakhs per annum, more
than that depends upon your confidence, knowledge and lots of discipline
towards your work.
- 2. Indian Legal Services: If you are looking for some
Government Job after your law graduation you can opt to prepare for Union Public Service Commission
examination, or SPSC, State Public Service Commission. Once they clear any of
these examinations, they can provide legal services in the department of legal
affairs. They can also be a part of the legislative council. After gaining
certain experience they can apply to be a part of the Department of Justice of
the Indian Government.
- 3. Judicial Services: Most likeable profession of many
law aspirants, to be a part of Judicial Services, each state through its High
Courts conduct examination the examination is conducted in three parts :
Preliminary which is MCQ based
Mains Examination it is a
subjective analytical exam
Interview
The syllabus and exam pattern is designed differently by different states, which they describe more fully in their vacancy notification.
Once you clear the exam you are a
part of Civil (Junior) Judicial Services. The job is very stable but demands a
lot of extensive engagement. Normally promotions are done every Three years.
- 4. SEBI Grade A (Legal Officer): Most of us are unaware about
this job, but it is also a very stable job, SEBI i.e the Securities and
Exchange Board of India it’s a legal body to regulate Share Market. The exam is
conducted in three stages and once you get selected you serve in for a
probation period of two years.
Mostly the work is related to Security Market Laws, if we talk about earnings salaries and other perks are very attractive.
- 5. Judge Advocate General (JAG): This job is related to Indian Army i.e you serve as a legal officer for Indian Army, this is a very respectable position as related to such a respectable institution.
But along with bachelor’s degree in law you need good personality and eye sight and for this position the age limit is 21-27 years. The perks are very good same as army officers.
- 6. Legal Officers in PSUs: Mostly the Public Sector
Undertakings (PSU) like BHEL, ONGC, etc. appoint legal officers on the basis of
CLAT PG examination, many law graduates appear for CLAT PG examination, only to
become eligible for interview in PSU.
These PSUs conduct a very
extensive interview of the candidates who apply on the basis of their CLAT PG
result and the candidate is selected.
You should aim at a very high score to be eligible for the interview. The job is less hectic than any other private company job and promotions, salaries, perks and benefits are very pleasant.
- 7. Public Prosecutors: UPSC conducts examination to appoint law graduates to represent State or Central Government in the courts. But for being eligible for this position a practice of Seven years is must.
- 8. University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET): Those who have interest in teaching this job is apt, but to be eligible for this along with bachelor’s degree in law, master’s degree in law is must i.e LLB+LLM.
- 9. RBI Grade-B Officer: Reserve Bank of India through the examination appoints Grade-B Legal officer, the main duties to perform are Legal Drafting, Consultation, RBIs legal representation in courts. To be eligible to apply for this post at least two years of practice in court is must.
The job is very stable, but
requires a lot of extensive research and accordingly the perks and benefits
plus salaries are handsome.
- 10. IBPS
Law Officer : every public sector bank appoints a Specialist Officer who
is a law graduate to handle legal matters of several departments of the bank
including legal representation in bank

- 11. Legal Journalism and Media : If you have very good
editorial and writing skills you can
elaborately write up in such a way that is self-explanatory, there is an option
of legal journalism which is covering legal matters and updates for the citizens,
it requires a lot of extensive research.
There are many media houses, news
channels, newspapers, magazines etc. who require law graduates. For a better
opportunity in this LLB can be combined with a diploma course in Journalism.
- 12. Legal Advisor and Consultancy
Services: Being
graduates in law there is an option to provide consultation services and legal
advices to the public at large or business houses or employers regarding their
day to day issues, these are kind of free lancing services. You can earn very
attractive income for yourself but patience is required because may be fir the
initial 1-3 years you will have to compromise with a lower income. Later with
experience and hard work and your interpersonal skills you can grow yourself.

Cyber Law : This is a new blooming field and many IT companies are these days looking for the Cyber Law experts, because with the advancement in technology and more and more things easily available online there are many crashes in the websites and web services of the companies which are done to hack or make theft of data. It’s a attractively paying field these days.
This is not all, if you want to
study further there are options available, such as:
- 1. LLM (Masters in Law): Through masters one can opt a particular subject/Law to do specialization in, mostly the admission process is the same as hereinabove detailed for bachelor’s degree. Many law graduates also go abroad for masters. The normal package can be anywhere between 12 Lakh-20 Lakh depending on the type of firm you applied and your expertise level.

MBA in
Business Law: The management field attracts students, if you have completed your law
degree you can do masters in the business administration. MBA after LLB will
create huge career opportunities for you. If you will pursue an MBA in Business
Law, you will understand the commercial laws in a better way. The normal package can be anywhere between 5Lakh-8Lakh
depending on the type of firm you applied and your expertise level.
- 3. Company
Secretary: After
completing LLB course or along with LLB you can enroll yourself for the Company
Secretaries course. These days this combination of LLB+CS very demanded by most
of the organization. You need to enroll with the Institute of Company
Secretaries of India. after clearing all the examinations of three levels viz.
Foundation, Executive, Professional and undergoing the article ship of two
years (or for a reduced period incase exemptions provided as per your prior
work and internship experience, if any) you will find numerous job
opportunities in the corporate world.The job profile and the package you will
get will be lucrative. However, the combination of LLB and CS will only work in
the corporate world and not in the plain law firms. The starting salary package
can be between 6Lakh to 8Lakh per annum and it will increase rapidly with the
amount of experience you gain.
Conclusively, law is a very wide profession because the moment an individual takes birth is guided by the law by way of birth certificates and laws are applicable on everyday activities till the last day of life of an individual by way of death certificate and even after. So the field is very vast you can choose the stream of your interest, no matter what background you are Science, Commerce or Humanities/Arts, Legal Studies and Profession is an open end for everyone. No age bar even at your 60s you can plan to study law (but yes certain carrier opportunities will not be available still you can always go into litigation, consultancy, legal advisory- age no bar).
Choose your college wisely, go
through the broachers, ratings, results, placements etc. Even if you cannot
afford for a very fancy law school or you cannot make into cracking up any
entrance examination, whatever college you go study well, try to go through the
roots of legal provisions you can make your own place, your carrier. All the
